Petite Portrait Bride Wedding Cake and Custom Cake Topper

These cakes are a collaboration between Elizabeth Bonura of www.weddingsculptures.com and Kelly Fuller of www.SweetAustin.com.

Elizabeth sculpted the cake toppers out of polymer clay and Kelly created the cakes, both have fondant icing.  Every detail of the portrait bridal cake can be customized to represent you!

Sculptor offers her custom work on the Web

AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Sunday, December 16, 2007

Custom wedding cake toppers and sculptures are the most popular items ordered on Elizabeth Bonura's Web site, weddingsculptures.com. The sculptures are based off photographs.

It wasn't that long ago that Elizabeth Bonura sat at her office as an Austin IBM employee, sure that she wasn't meant to be a programmer. After the birth of her son and a thoughtful Valentine's Day gift from her husband — the registration of the domain name "weddingsculptures.com" — Bonura was able to leave her job and focus on sculpting.

Her site, which allows anyone on the Internet to order custom sculptures and cake toppers, keeps her busy: The more complex jobs can take weeks to complete. We molded a few questions for Bonura to answer.

Life size portrait wedding cake

Cutting The Cake!

This life-size portrait wedding cake was inspired by two large bride and groom cakes at a wedding the bride attended in Nigeria when she was a child.  Those cakes were not portraits of the bride and groom - that was inspired by the fact the bride always wanted a doll that looked like her! There were only two people willing to take on this enormous task of creating her dream cake.  This amazing colaborative project was created by artists in two differnt cities.  Elizabeth sculpted the head and shoulders in Austin, Tx and Nikki, with Absolutely Editable Cakes, created the wedding gown cake in Dallas,Tx.  The head is made out of polymer clay and has 24mm glass eyes which added to the realism of this sculpture. The bride said this incredible cake was the talk of the reception and everyone was taking pictures of it with their cell phones!  Please click "Read more" to view additional photos.
